Obscurium

Obscurium from Sugar Bytes is a synthesis tool for sound and pitch. It feeds on the input of scales & chords to produce futuristic soundscapes and vivid harmonics.

It’s probably the most interesting and complex of their plugins. Just using the presets gives interesting sequences and patterns that could be the basis of a track, or an interesting addition,

It’s going to take a long time to understand how this works:

Anatomy of a Scandal

Anatomy of a Scandal is an American anthology thriller drama streaming television miniseries developed by David E. Kelley and Melissa James Gibson, based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan. The series consists of six episodes, and premiered on Netflix on April 15, 2022.

Sophie Whitehouse, the wife of British Tory MP James Whitehouse, learns that her husband has been having an affair with an aide. The news goes public, blowing up their lives and forcing her to deal with the consequences of her husband’s disastrous decisions. To make matters worse, James is accused of rape and has to stand trial.

Unique

Unique from Sugar Bytes is a synthesizer that specializes in vowel sounds and analogue sounds from the Golden Age of synthesizers.

It has Dual-oscillator with 5 waveforms and is an emulation of synthesizers from the golden age of analogue keyboard sounds.

It has a simple chunky interface that appears to be easy to use. However it is not as easy to use as it’s difficult to work out the signal flow between components. However it does have good sounds that can easily be tweaked.

Looperator

Looperator from Sugar Bytes chops up audio and adds effests.

This effect plugin operates in 16 steps. Each step can slice, filter, loop, envelope (change volume) and add effects. Plus there are lots of dice (random settings).

This means that the effects can be applied to a track and over it’s length each parameter will change. This adds some sparkle to boring ambient tracks.

Red Sun of Danger

Red Sun of Danger
(Captain Future #18)

Captain Future is off to save a planet…  But first he staged his own death and poses as his murderer.

In disguise he infiltrates a rebellion and comes into contact with the original people of the universe.

Just another day for the savior of the universe.

SB Factory

Sugar Bytes Factory is a Modular Synthesizer.

It has different synthesis methods, a matrix and four sequencers. It operates on wavetable, waveguide and FM.

Of all the synthesizers, this is one of the easiest to program sequences. There are four of them and plenty of options. Plus there is a randomize button on just about everything.

Aparillo

Aparillo from Sugar Bytes is a 16-voice FM synthesizer.

With wave shaping, filtering, FX and modulation it has a dark ominous default preset that sets the tone. A lot of these presets are good for dark ambient, with long echoing chords.

However the unique part is the ‘Orbiter’ which allows the focus of the sound to move between ‘planets’, representing effects.

Killjoys 1-5

Killjoys is a Canadian science fiction series. It follows a trio of hard-living bounty hunters—Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), Johnny (Aaron Ashmore), and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane).

The series ran for five seasons of 10 episodes, ending in 2019. Throughout its run, the series received generally positive reviews and was nominated for various accolades, including two Canadian Screen Awards nominations and three Prix Aurora Awards nominations.

1 “Bangarang”
Dutch and Johnny are Killjoys, bounty hunters in the Quad located in the J Star Cluster. In the first episode they find and take on a new buddy, John’s brother D’avin.

2 “The Sugar Point Run
The Killjoys take a warrant just to pay off their debt for the damage done on Qresh. Dutch is told she has a new warrant, a prisoner exchange, which she tries to turn down but Hills threatens her and forces her to take it. Soon it becomes a hostage situation between the prisoner’s sister and the Mayor’s daughter.

The usual ‘save the hostage’, kill everyone and get out.

3 “The Harvest”

D’avin passes the interview to become a Killjoy, minus his psych eval. Johnny’s He asks his friendly doctor, Pawter to sign his psych eval and she agrees if he will get her a ride on Lucy to Leith. Fairly pedestrian episode where we discover that ears can be easily replaced.

4 4 “Vessel”
After D’avin chases and recovers his first Level 4 warrant in Old Town the trio head to Bellus who has been calling Dutch all day. Delle Seyah Kendry, a member of one of the Nine families, approaches Dutch with a mission: the Nine use a fertility cult to carry their heirs to term, and the unborn Lehani heir has gone missing.

Seems to be a ripoff of Max Max: Fury Road, but on a budget.

5 “A Glitch in the System”
After coming across a cargo ship in an asteroid belt, the Killjoys think they have hit the jackpot in unclaimed treasure. On the ship, they split up and find they are not alone.

This seems familiar. The plot is similar to Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber.
