The Diplomat is an American television series created by Debora Cahn. It premiered on Netflix on April 20, 2023. In May 2023, the series was renewed for a second season.

Touted as a thriller, it would be best described as a political/court drama. All the story takes place at the highest echelons of power in the UK and USA. It starts with the bombing of a British warship and explores the consequences between world powers and what they will do.

It had the potential to be a gripping story of power and intrigue. But this just slips away with a slow and wordy pace, lack of action and  too many characters. It also has a lot of unnecessary sex to slow things down and distract from the main story. It’s seems to be always on the edge of turning the main character (Kate Wyler) into a Mary Sue. 

There are eight episodes and at the end they don’t even have the decency to wrap up the story, leaving multiple cliffhangers I can easily walk away from.
