The Mandalorian Episode 2.02 Chapter 10: The Passenger
The Mandalorian agrees to take a frog-like creature and her eggs from Tatooine to the estuary moon Trask, where her husband will fertilize the eggs, in exchange for information on other Mandalorians.
Due to the eggs’ fragility, they must travel at slow “sub-light” speeds. On their journey, they are confronted by X-wing fighters who force the Mandalorian to a nearby icy planet because he is wanted by the New Republic for his role in a prison break; he crash-lands on the planet.
While the Mandalorian fixes the ship, the child stumbles upon numerous eggs inside an ice cave which hatch to reveal a swarm of spider-like creatures.
The Mandalorian, child, and passenger are trapped in the Razor Crest, the Mandalorian’s ship, until the X-wing pilots find them and kill the creatures.
They explain that because the Mandalorian helped apprehend his accomplices from the prison break, they will drop the arrest warrant and leave him with a warning.
After the Mandalorian finishes the repairs, the tattered Razor Crest takes off and resumes its journey to Trask.
What did we learn:
1. Spaceships are tough. A few hours of work, some welding and your ship is ready for flight.
2. Water, in all it’s forms is everywhere.
3. Someone has been watching ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’. The scene with the fighter pilots feels like it came from HHGTG.
This episode is mainly about establishing the character of Adira who is hosting a Trill. He/Her is probably to be a major character given the time spent om establishing backstory and who they are.
It is refreshing and different to have a character that does not fit onto the usual gender stereotypes.
Burnham takes her to the Trill home world in hopes that the Trill can help unlock her memories, of course they will. And after a disagreement, some violence and very impressive graphics we get resolution and a character ready to be part of the team.
Meanwhile, Saru attempts to improve crew morale with the help of a dinner party that descends into chaos. Fortunately everything here is not wrapped up in an unrealistic bow American scriptwriters are prone to do.
My Music Collection is a software database that can catalog a music collection. I have been looking for one for a while, but never found one I like. With a few exceptions, it’s very good.
I tested the demo with the 50 albums I could add. The interface works well and is nicely intuitive. There are lots of customizations you can do to get things just right. The danger is trying to put too much in, with over 2,000 albums and half a dozen fields for each that’s a lot of data.
The first problem I detected was that the searching algorithm seemed to grab any art for a particular album. This resulted in some large files in .BMP and .PNG format that if left unchecked could result in a very large database. I found eventually solution.
The other problem is that there is no way to import a .csv into the database. I solved this by finding another music cataloguing program that would import spreadsheets, that ‘My Music Collection’ could read. So after a lot of work, I managed to import over 2,000 albums with just the artist, album name and year.
For the album art I am doing this manually. Most of the albums are mp3 and the artwork is readily available. It’s just a matter of resizing it down to 250×250 and importing.
Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way to alter a single field of multiple albums in one operation.
For Taranaki Māori, 5 November 1881 is known as ‘Te Rā o te Pāhua’ or the ‘Day of Plunder’. The invasion of Parihaka — te pāhuatanga — happened when around 1500 armed constabulary and volunteers led by the Native Affairs Minister, John Bryce, invaded Parihaka.
For months leading up to the invasion, troops had surrounded the peaceful Taranaki Māori village. They even set up a cannon on a nearby hill. While the soldiers had enough ammunition and rations to see them through a ‘bloody battle’, the reality was very different.
Chop onion and bacon and fry in pan. Chop pumpkin and microwave until soft (approx 5 min). When cooked, add pumpkin and salmon. Mix well. In a separate bowl, mix eggs and cream. Spoon meat mix into oven tin with pastry on base. Add cream mix. Bake.
Discovery has arrived in the future. Saru becomes the captain (wasn’t he before?). Discovery’s dilithium is stored on Book’s cloaked ship for safety. Using Discovery’s advanced spore drive, they travel to Earth and find it no longer part of the Federation.
Investigators from the United Earth Defense Force board Discovery for a search, assuming they are pirates.
Then they are attacked by dilithium bandits, but Burnham and Book trick the bandits, capturing their leader. In negotiations they realise that they can help each other and prevent further fighting.
A young investigator named Adira reveals that she is the host of Tal’s Trill symbiont and has access to his memories. Good to see the trill back.
